WE CAN’T LOOK AWAY.

This is not a football match; it’s not about picking sides and defending atrocities. This is madness. What’s happening is incomprehensible, inhuman, and utterly unacceptable.

War has rules. And when those rules are broken, consequences must follow. What we are witnessing goes far beyond “collateral damage”, these are civilians, families, children waiting for their homes to collapse on them. This is insanity.

My grandma used to tell me how, during WWII, the Nazis and then the Allies bombed her home while her father was imprisoned in a concentration camp. They had to host two SS guards in their family house. If a Nazi soldier was killed, ten civilians were executed. If your family was already on a blacklist, like hers, you moved up the line quickly. She was just 15. She had to go to school every day pretending everything was fine, unable to speak, unable to even whisper the truth of what was happening at home. Fascist Italy was full of spies. A single complaint could cost you your life, or worse, your family’s.
Her father, my great-grandfather, was already in a camp. Her sister and mother were living in fear. Some of her friends never made it.

Sounds terrifying? It was.
They survived, and that's the only reason I can tell this story. But how many stories like hers are never told? How many are being buried right now?

We, the privileged, those of us who live in comfort, who scroll on phones and post from safe cities, we have a moral obligation.
To donate, to protest, to speak out.
To refuse silence.
To refuse neutrality in the face of horror.

Personally, I donate to UNRWA, and I invite every single person who reads this to do the same. If you’ve made it here, if you have the privilege of time, safety, and a roof over your head, use that privilege. Support those who have lost everything.

A world without war may be a utopia, but a world where the privileged choose to look away is a nightmare.

Supporting ethnic cleansing, kidnapping, or bombing civilians, even passively, even in silence, should horrify us all. Hatred solves nothing. It never has. It never will.

So don’t turn away.
Speak. Act. Care. Donate
